Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Below you’ll find solutions to common queries about Downtime Cat. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out to us - we’re always happy to help.

How do you detect downtime?

We send an HTTP HEAD request to your website with a 10 second timeout. If your site is unavailable or returns an HTTP error code, we consider it down. The frequency of checks depends on your plan (every 5, 2, or 1 minute).

What happens if my site blocks bots?

If your site blocks bots, ask your tech team to whitelist this IP address: 18.117.220.66.

I'm not receiving notifications—what should I do?

Check your spam folder to ensure our notifications aren’t being flagged. If they are, mark them as "not spam" to ensure future messages reach your inbox.

Why is there no free plan?

We’ve set our prices as low as possible to ensure everyone contributes fairly. This helps us stay sustainable and focused, without paid accounts subsidizing free users.

What happens if I cancel my account?

Your account will remain active until the end of the current billing period, after which it will be canceled.

What if I want a refund?

If you're unhappy with your purchase, contact us within 10 days of signing up, and we'll issue a full refund - no questions asked.

Can I notify people who aren’t users?

No, email notifications are sent only to users on your account. This ensures we can validate their email addresses and confirm they want to receive notifications.

What if I need to notify more users than my plan allows?

You can set up an automatic email forwarder in your email client to share notifications with others who need them.

Can I get an invoice?

Yes! You can download invoices directly from your Account page under the "Invoices" section.

Do you have an API?

No, we’re focused on keeping Downtime Cat as simple and straightforward as possible.

Can I have a custom plan?

Yes, but custom plans require significant setup time and effort. Custom plans are only available for subscriptions at least the size of the Enterprise plan.

My site is down—can you fix it?

Unfortunately, no. Downtime Cat focuses solely on monitoring your website's status and notifying you if it goes offline. We recommend contacting your hosting provider or web developer for assistance.

Can we hire you to build a website?

Yes! Contact us at support@downtimecat.com to discuss your needs, and let’s see how we can help.
